Roy Rogers is world-renowned as a premier slide guitarist and performer having released eight solo recordings. He has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and received six Grammy credits as the producer of John Lee Hooker and Ramblin' Jack Elliott recordings. An exciting live performer, he has toured worldwide since 1982 as a featured performer in Hooker's Coast to Coast Blues Band, thereafter touring with his own band The Delta Rhythm Kings. He has appeared at festivals and events in the U.S. and around the world including Montreux, Pori and North Sea Jazz Festivals in Europe as well as festivals in South America and Australia.
His unique style of slide guitar playing has been widely recognized by the global music community and he has been featured in numerous publications such as Rolling Stone, USA Today, Billboard, Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar Magazine, Blues Revue and Guitar & Bass. His musical talents have also been featured on national film and television recording projects most notably the soundtrack of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and the feature film 'The Hot Spot' which was recorded with Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker and Taj Mahal.
Born in 1950, a native of California, Roy grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and started playing guitar at the age of 12. In bands at an early age, he was exposed to a wealth of musical styles, most notably the blues, which became his passion – especially the Delta Blues (Robert Johnson) and slide guitar. Since his first recording in 1976, he has become one of the great practioners/ innovators of modern slide guitar.
This multi-talented recording artist, producer and composer, continues to combines diverse influences to achieve his own unique musical vision. Always eclectic in his approach, he is constantly stretching the boundaries of slide guitar in his music.
He has recorded a new CD, "Slideways", featuring all instrumental tracks with some very special guests, who include Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters), Francis Clay (Muddy Waters), Norton Buffalo (Steve Miller) and Philip Aaberg. With distinctive songwriting and arrangements throughout, the recording reveals to the listener the reason why Roy Rogers is considered to be one of the premier slide guitarists performing today. Fresh and inventive, "Slideways" dazzles start to finish.
