  New United Motors Manufacturing International

Associated Entertainment Consultants and Darata Design Associates joined together to produce NUMMI 2004.

In acknowledgement of 20 years in business, NUMMI (New United Motors Manufacturing International) celebrated their anniversary with a multi-cultural, entertainment packed party at the Santa Clara Convention Center. In addition to the fine catering supplied by the Santa Clara Convention Center, the theatre and exhibit halls offered a taste of something different for every guest.

The inspired decor of Darlene Darata Design created a unique atmosphere in 6 individually themed rooms. Eclectic entertainment supplied by Associated Entertainment Consultants kept the crowd engaged and surprised with music, dancers, walk-around characters, and comedy.

Mariachi Azteca and San Francisco Taiko Drums greeted over 5000 NUMMI employees and guests entering the foyer with alternating sounds of Mexico and Japan.

Passing by a large ice sculpture of the NUMMI logo, guests eased through an Ice Blue Lounge on their way to a choice of sizzling, exciting party rooms. The lounge offered a quiet space to cool down and relax on white lounge furniture with silver sequenced pillows, while reading about the history of NUMMI or checking out two of the newest automobiles hot off the NUMMI production line.

Live Star Tracks cued up dance music and Karaoke with help from Audio Visions in an Asian themed downtown dance club draped in red shimmer with rice paper screens and Chinese paper dragons. Party girls wearing blinking lights lead the grooves in a room that was hopping all night long.

Laser beams by CTA, neon table tops, light towers and funky neon flowers from 3-B Productions lit up the electric 1980's Room while Fast Times 80’s played the favorite songs of the era and DJ’s & MC’s threw down the beats for the hip-hop dancers and break-dancers to spin and flare. Sound provided by Tolar Sound. Costumed walk around characters dressed as a Punk-rock Chick and “Prince” reminded guests of the decade that gave birth to MTV.

Country music lovers moseyed into the “Howdy” Room to enjoy the songs of Wild at Heart and gather around the chuck wagon for BBQ chow served on checkered table clothes. Super Gigi dressed as “The Crazy Cowgirl”, gave a hoot and holler while Richard Campbell Country DJ taught guests how to country line dance.

In “The Beat of the City” Room, 3-B Productions lit up a backdrop of the San Francisco cityscape for the Mark Hopkins’ own Ricardo Scales and his group of cool jazz aficionados.

For a touch of class the main ballroom was dressed up in gold lame drape, with floating balloon centerpieces and candlelight. Two explosive party bands shared the main stage. Motor City Magic drove home the Motown sound while a costumed “Detroit Dandy” worked the crowd. The spirit of salsa came to life on the dance floor to the Latin rhythms of Bravo accented by three sultry salsa couples from Mambo Romero and a costumed “Carmen La Cha-Cha”.

SF Taiko Drummers performed once more as a call to all guests to gather in the main hall for the President and CEO of NUMMI, Mr. Yukio Azuma, who welcomed his guests and expressed his appreciation for all of the NUMMI team’s hard work.

Local magician and all around funny guy RJ Owens entertained the growing line waiting to view the hilarious stand up comedy that filled the theater for three standing room only performances. Hosted by comedian Robert Martinez, the show featured the hysterical ramblings of Darrin Carter and the too true laments about life and parenthood by Debi Gutierrez.

NUMMI enjoyed a fun, smooth flowing, and flawless event thanks to the collective efforts of a team of creative and knowledgeable professionals in design, sound, lighting, audio/visual, and entertainment.

Our heart goes out to the NUMMI Entertainment Committee. They helped make this event one of our most memorable. We could not have produced an event of this complexity without the support of this wonderful group.

Special thanks to Lucinda Mendoza and Cathy Trujeque from the NUMMI Entertainment Committee, without whose efforts this event would not have been possible. Also, Pam Rodgers and Augie Reyes from the Santa Clara Convention Center and Lynette Young from Projection.
